96.9 MW Solar Project Reaches Full Operation in Peru

First New Energy Project in Peru Reaches Commercial Operation

A 96.9 MW solar project in Peru’s Ica region reached full-capacity operation on September 19, marking the successful completion of China Power Construction Corporation’s first new energy project in the country.

Located in the Marcona District of Nazca Province, the project includes approximately 136,000 solar modules, 2,345 single-axis tracking systems, seven 33 kV collector circuits, and a 220 kV substation with associated transmission infrastructure.

Construction Completed Under Challenging Conditions

The project team faced high temperatures, strong winds, blowing dust and a tight construction schedule. To maintain progress, the team optimized construction planning and coordinated design, procurement, installation and commissioning activities, including foundation, tracker, module and grid-connection works.

250 GWh of Clean Power Expected Annually

Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate around 250 GWh of electricity per year and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 150,000 tonnes annually.

The project is expected to strengthen Peru’s clean power supply and support the country’s transition toward a lower-carbon energy system.
