Germany’s solar power market saw a sharp price recovery in June 2026, highlighting the growing importance of electricity demand patterns and market timing for renewable energy revenues.

Solar Market Prices Rebound

The average market value of solar-generated electricity rose to €0.0619/kWh in June, almost double May’s €0.0316/kWh and significantly above the €0.0184/kWh recorded in June 2025.

Meanwhile, Germany’s average wholesale electricity price increased to €0.1095/kWh, up from €0.0975/kWh in May.

Evening Demand Supports Higher Power Prices

The rise in wholesale electricity prices was mainly driven by higher prices during the morning and evening demand peaks.

However, solar generation is limited during these periods, as output is still low in the early morning and declines toward the evening. As a result, solar power continues to capture a lower market value than the overall wholesale electricity price.

Storage Could Become Increasingly Important

The widening gap between solar generation hours and peak electricity demand highlights the growing value of energy storage.

As Germany expands solar capacity, batteries and other flexible energy resources could help shift excess daytime solar power into higher-value evening hours, improving the economics of solar projects while supporting grid stability.
