Strategic Partnership Targets 2 GW of Clean Energy

On October 6, Oman’s O-GREEN and Kazakhstan’s Samruk-Energy signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly develop approximately 2 GW of solar and wind projects, supported by battery energy storage systems (BESS). The projects will target Kazakhstan, Central Asia and other international markets.

The agreement was signed during Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s state visit to Kazakhstan, bringing together O-GREEN, an integrated energy and technology platform, and Samruk-Energy, part of Kazakhstan’s sovereign wealth fund group, Samruk-Kazyna.

Renewable Power to Serve AI Data Centers

The planned projects will supply electricity to power markets, industrial customers and AI data centers. This approach goes beyond conventional renewable energy development by linking clean electricity generation with energy storage and the growing demand for computing infrastructure.

By combining renewable power with storage, the partners aim to support more reliable electricity supply for energy-intensive users.

Kazakhstan Expands Its Renewable Energy Sector

Kazakhstan has increased the share of renewables in its electricity generation from 2% to 8% over the past six years. The country now has 172 renewable energy facilities with combined installed capacity exceeding 3.8 GW.

The O-GREEN partnership adds to a growing pipeline of large-scale renewable projects in the country, where wind and solar resources offer significant development potential.

Power and Computing Drive New Investment

The agreement reflects a growing trend toward integrating renewable energy, battery storage and data center infrastructure. As AI computing increases electricity demand, access to reliable, competitively priced clean power is becoming an increasingly important factor in energy investment decisions.

For Kazakhstan and the wider Central Asian region, such partnerships could help attract international capital while supporting renewable energy expansion and emerging digital infrastructure.
