Solar PV prices are moving higher across the upstream supply chain, with polysilicon, wafers and solar cells all recording notable increases this week.
According to Shanghai Metals Market (SMM), the average price of N-type polysilicon rebounded to RMB 39.45/kg, up RMB 1.40/kg. N-type dense polysilicon reached RMB 39/kg, while granular polysilicon climbed to RMB 39.50/kg, rising RMB 2/kg.
However, the price increase has yet to translate into meaningful transactions. Industry data shows that domestic polysilicon trading remains largely stalled, with no new orders reported this week.
Wafer and Cell Prices Also Rise
Wafer manufacturers have also raised prices. According to Mysteel, prices for major wafer sizes increased by RMB 0.22 per wafer on August 13.
The latest quotations reached RMB 1.12/wafer for 183N, RMB 1.22 for 210RN and RMB 1.42 for 210N.
Solar cell prices have seen an even sharper increase. TrendForce data shows the average price of M10L TOPCon cells rising to RMB 0.29/W, up 9.43% week on week. G12 TOPCon cells increased 9.62% to RMB 0.285/W, while G12R cells rose 7.69% to RMB 0.28/W.
The simultaneous rise across multiple segments suggests that manufacturers are attempting to rebuild margins after a prolonged period of intense price competition.
However, the gap between higher quotations and actual market transactions remains an important factor to watch.
If price increases are accompanied by real order growth, falling inventories and sustained production cuts, the market could be entering a broader recovery. Otherwise, the current rally may remain largely driven by supply-side expectations and market sentiment.
