On March 4 local time, the 240 MW Mooi PV Project in South Africa, constructed by a joint venture between China Energy Engineering International Group and Gezhouba Group, successfully completed all commissioning and acceptance procedures and officially entered commercial operation, marking another significant achievement in China-South Africa clean energy cooperation.
Located in the Noorport area of South Africa’s Northern Cape Province, the project’s core components include a 240 MWac photovoltaic power plant, along with a full suite of supporting infrastructure such as a step-up substation, switching stations, and transmission lines. It is the largest single-site photovoltaic power plant delivered by a Chinese enterprise in South Africa. Upon commissioning, the project is expected to generate approximately 700 million kWh of electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 400,000 tons per year. It will effectively support South Africa in optimizing its energy supply structure and achieving green, low-carbon transformation, injecting strong green momentum into local energy security.
During construction, the China Energy Engineering Group project team faced multiple challenges, including complex local climatic conditions, a tight construction schedule, and challenges with the local supply chain. Adhering to lean management principles, the team formulated scientific construction plans, strengthened efficient coordination across all phases, and strictly ensured engineering safety and quality, thereby fully achieving the set goals for safety, quality, and progress.
As another flagship project in China-South Africa clean energy cooperation, its successful commissioning will further deepen practical cooperation between the two countries in the field of green energy, opening a new chapter in advancing the quality and upgrading of China-South Africa economic and trade cooperation and achieving green development.
