According to a report by Cubadebate on October 16th, the head of Cuba's renewable energy projects, Diaz, recently disclosed that the country's photovoltaic plan has been advancing at a rapid pace since two power plants were connected to the grid in March this year. As of now, 32 photovoltaic parks and 3 donation parks have been built across the country, contributing a total of 715 megawatts of installed capacity. The annual plan has been exceeded. These photovoltaic facilities have cumulatively generated 429.3 gigawatt-hours of electricity, replacing 111000 ton of fossil fuels and accounting for 9% of the national daily power supply. Currently, 19 new photovoltaic parks are under construction, and an additional 415 megawatts of installed capacity is expected to be added within the year. Four energy storage systems will be built as a supporting project to address power fluctuations.
The 120-megawatt solar photovoltaic equipment project funded by the Chinese government is implemented in two phases: The first phase, involving 7 parks, is nearly completed. Among them, 3 parks have been connected to the grid, and the remaining 4 parks are planned to be put into operation in October; The second phase, involving 15 parks with energy storage systems, will be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
