U.S. 126% Tariff Devastates Indian Solar Equipment Exports

According to foreign media reports on February 26, the United States imposed a preliminary countervailing duty of 125.87% on Indian solar cells and modules, causing the stock prices of major Indian photovoltaic companies to plummet and effectively shutting down this key U.S. market.

The U.S. claims that Indian companies received unfair subsidies; the final ruling is scheduled for July 6, and the anti-dumping investigation is proceeding in parallel.

In 2024, India’s solar exports to the U.S. reached $792.6 million. Affected companies have already reduced shipments in anticipation of the tariffs and are responding by establishing overseas factories and diversifying their supply chains; the Indian government has also allowed enterprises in special economic zones to sell domestically to reduce reliance on the U.S. market.
