China’s silicon wafer market remained largely unchanged this week, with buyers and sellers taking a cautious wait-and-see approach, according to the latest market data released on September 17.
Prices Hold Steady
Average transaction prices remained unchanged from the previous week:
N-type G10L: RMB 1.01/wafer
N-type G12R: RMB 1.03/wafer
N-type G12: RMB 1.15/wafer
All three major wafer formats recorded no week-on-week price movement.
Cost Support Meets Weak Demand
On the supply side, firm polysilicon prices are providing cost support for wafer manufacturers. Producers are showing limited willingness to cut prices and are generally trying to maintain current price levels.
Demand, however, remains relatively weak. Overseas demand has softened, while China’s domestic downstream market is also showing limited momentum. Many cell and module manufacturers are mainly using existing inventories, with only small purchases made to cover immediate needs.
Market Remains in a Standoff
With limited transactions and cautious purchasing, the wafer market is currently in a standoff between upstream suppliers and downstream buyers. In the near term, prices are likely to remain under pressure from weak demand while being supported by production costs.
