India’s Solar Industry Moves Toward Next-Generation Technology with 13GW Perovskite Partnerships

India’s solar industry is entering a new phase of development as manufacturers shift from simply expanding capacity toward improving efficiency and strengthening domestic technology capabilities.

U.S.-based energy technology company Caelux has signed two separate five-year commercial agreements with Indian solar manufacturers Rayzon Solar and Navitas Solar, each covering 5GW of next-generation solar module production. The deals follow Caelux’s previous 3GW partnership with Solx earlier this year, bringing its total announced Indian commercialization pipeline to 13GW.

The partnerships focus on combining Caelux’s perovskite solar technology with advanced N-type TOPCon silicon modules. The hybrid tandem modules are expected to achieve conversion efficiencies of up to 28%, significantly higher than conventional silicon-based panels, while improving power density and reducing the overall cost of solar electricity.

India has become a key market for next-generation solar technologies. The country has already surpassed 150GW of solar capacity, ranking among the world’s largest solar markets. To achieve its ambitious target of 500GW renewable energy capacity by 2030, India will need rapid deployment of new solar projects while improving manufacturing competitiveness.

Government policies, including the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) requirements, are accelerating investment in domestic solar manufacturing. These policies are encouraging companies to build local supply chains and adopt higher-efficiency technologies.

Rayzon Solar and Navitas Solar will integrate Caelux’s perovskite technology into their TOPCon production platforms to develop high-efficiency tandem modules. Commercial production is expected to begin around 2028, targeting utility-scale solar projects in India and supporting the country’s “Make in India” manufacturing strategy.

The development of perovskite-silicon tandem technology could have a broader impact on the global solar industry. As solar markets worldwide face pressure to increase efficiency while reducing land use and project costs, higher-performance modules may become an important direction for future photovoltaic development.

India’s growing role in solar manufacturing is also reshaping the global supply chain. With increasing domestic production capacity and stronger technology partnerships, the country is positioning itself not only as a major solar deployment market but also as a potential hub for next-generation photovoltaic manufacturing.
