Solar Supply Chain Shows Mixed Price Trends As Market Moves Toward Stabilization

Global solar supply chain prices showed mixed movements this week, with some key materials gaining support from higher costs while others remained under pressure due to supply-demand imbalances.

EVA Prices Rise as Solar Demand Provides Support

EVA prices for solar encapsulation materials increased by 2.0% this week, supported by relatively tight supply and stable demand from the photovoltaic sector.

Although demand from different downstream industries remains uneven, the solar market continues to provide important support for EVA consumption. Market expectations suggest that EVA prices may remain stable in the short term.

Oil Price Rally Supports Backsheet PET Costs

Solar backsheet PET prices increased by 0.8%, mainly driven by rising upstream costs.

Renewed geopolitical tensions in the Middle East pushed international crude oil prices higher, strengthening cost support for PX and PTA markets. However, demand recovery remains cautious, and market participants are closely watching supply adjustments and inventory changes.

Aluminum Frame Prices Stay Firm Amid Tight Supply

Aluminum prices for solar module frames rose slightly by 0.2%.

Limited aluminum inventory, slower supply growth and stable export demand provided support to the market. Meanwhile, downstream buyers continued to purchase based on actual demand, keeping prices in a relatively stable range.

Copper Cable Prices Increase Despite Weak Buying Interest

Copper prices for photovoltaic cables climbed 0.7% this week due to relatively tight market supply.

However, downstream purchasing remained cautious, with many buyers focusing on lower-priced materials. As a result, short-term copper prices are expected to fluctuate within a limited range.

Mounting Structure Steel Prices Under Pressure

In contrast, steel prices used for solar mounting structures declined by 0.5%.

Oversupply conditions and rising inventories continue to pressure the market, while weaker cost support may lead to further price adjustments in the near term.

Solar Glass Market Shows Signs of Recovery

Solar glass prices remained unchanged this week, but market conditions are gradually improving.

Production cuts and capacity reductions have helped ease supply pressure, while inventory levels have started to decline. With manufacturers facing continued losses and increasing expectations for further production adjustments, solar glass prices may see upward movement in August.

Solar Supply Chain Moves Toward Stabilization

Overall, the solar supply chain is entering a period of adjustment. While upstream costs such as oil, aluminum and copper continue to influence pricing, supply discipline and demand recovery will play a key role in determining future solar module costs.

As the global photovoltaic market continues expanding, material price trends will remain an important factor affecting solar manufacturing margins and project economics.
